Dream Team Advice: Protecting Your Recreational Vehicles for Year-Round Fun

You work hard so that you can enjoy your down time. And while you’re enjoying yourself, it’s important to ensure you have the right insurance to protect you as well. After all, nothing can put a dampener on your fun more than having an accident and then finding out your insurance does not cover you.

Recreational vehicles, such as motorhomes, trailers, boats, jet skis, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles, are all leisure items that require coverage under recreational insurance policies.

These toys all come with their unique set of risks. And, while you may think your recreational vehicles are covered under you homeowners’ insurance policy, in reality they are either not covered or only covered for a small amount that is not enough to replace the item. You should always consult with your insurance advisor when you purchase these toys to ensure you have the right coverage in place.

And if you have more than one of these types of vehicles, the good news is that your insurance will not only include a variety of coverage options, but it could also include discounts.

Seasonal Use

Many recreational vehicle insurance premiums are adjusted for seasonal use, meaning the amount you pay for insurance is based on the timeframe you’d typically be using your recreational vehicle, but your coverage is still year-round.

In other words, cancelling your insurance in the off-season would not save you money because seasonal use has already been taken into consideration by your policy.

And, even though you may not be using your recreational vehicles in off-seasons, chances are they’re in storage. In this case, you’ll still want year-round coverage to protect these items while in storage from misgivings such as theft, vandalism, fire and so on.

When you have questions or doubts regarding your current policies, it’s always wise to check with your DREAM insurance advisor before making any changes or cancelling coverage altogether.
